Mack Truck, UAW reach tentative agreement over 2,500 workers

<p>Representatives of Mack Trucks and the United Auto Workers reached a tentative settlement over a contract that covers about 2,500 workers in three states, the company announced Saturday.</p><p>Mack Trucks won't comment on the proposed agreement pending a vote by local bargaining units, according to a statement issued late Saturday morning.</p><p>The agreement would affect members of UAW locals in Allentown, Macungie and Middletown, Pa.; Baltimore and Hagerstown, Md.; and Atlanta. Messages left with Local #677 in Allentown were not immediately returned Saturday.</p><p>The talks, which were held in King of Prussia, Pa., had stretched past the midnight Friday contract deadline. Workers had authorized a strike earlier in the week.</p><p>Production workers at the company, a unit of AB Volvo of Sweden, make about $23 per hour. Mack has not had a strike since 1984.</p>
