Georgia fire departments receives over $1.6 million in grants

<p>Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge on Friday announced that Georgia fire departments received $1,663,966 in grants to assist the Firefighter Grant Program.</p><p>The 19th round of grants provides money to help local fire departments purchase firefighting equipment, fund health and safety programs, enhance emergency medical services programs and conduct fire education an prevention.</p><p>Over the next several months, approximately 8,000 awards worth nearly $750 million in direct assistance to firefighter departments throughout the country.</p><p>Savannah received the largest grant of $462,217; Summerville $177,889, East Dublin $154,249, and Swainsboro $133,200.</p><p>Also receiving grants were:</p><p>_ Coffee County, $62,798.</p><p>_ Gum Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Hinesville, $26,222.</p><p>_ Turner County Fire Department, $132,300.</p><p>_ Northside Volunteer Fire Department, Moultrie, $12,933.</p><p>_ Roddy Volunteer Fire Department, Cochran, $71,382.</p><p>_ Spring Hill Volunteer Fire Department, Alamo, $81,000.</p><p>_ Box Springs Fire Department, $19,408.</p><p>_ Reidsville Volunteer Fire Department, $52,046.</p><p>_ Colbert Volunteer Fire Department, $54,675,</p><p>_ Murray County Fire Department, $39,327.</p><p>_ Rossville Fire Department, $62,010.</p><p>_ Volunteer fire department in Danielsville, $122,310.</p>
