GAINESVILLE - The Good News Community Health Center, which provides free medical and dental care to the Gainesville area's homeless and needy, hopes to be in a bigger facility soon, and it has its first executive director.

The clinic recently purchased a larger building and plans to make the move early next year.

It is at 810 Pine Street, according to executive director Cheryl Christian, who says the center has simply outgrown the old location.

"We have seen the number of patients rise to this year we probably will have over 17,000 visits," Christian said.

The health center, which is staffed by volunteer current and retired medical personnel, is currently located on Davis Street
near Davis Street Apartments and Good News At Noon, a homeless shelter which also provides free meals to those in need.

Christian was recently hired as executive director. She is the former executive director of Gateway House, the Gainesville shelter for battered and abused women.

"This really is a great opportunity for me to work with the board and this community in providing the services that they provide."
