GAINESVILLE - Ebo Elder won the vacant North American Boxing Organization (NABO) Lightweight Championship in Gainesville Saturday night with a TKO.

The scheduled 12-round fight was stopped after the fifth round and Elder declared the winner over Ricardo Fuentes. At the request of the referee, a ringside doctor took a look at Fuentes after the fifth round and declared he would risk permanent damage to one of his eyes if the fight continued.

The fight was the eighth of the evening.

The only knockout came in the fifth match on the card, when Gainesville's Tyreese Hendrix knocked out Jeff Harrison of Cincinnati at 2:55 of the fifth round. It was Harrison's first professional fight.

The other preliminaries all went the distance and were decided by a decision of the ringside judges.

*Rashiem Jefferson of Philidelphia beat Barbaro Zepeda of Atlanta

*Marshall Berger, also making his pro debut, defeated Tony Foster of Atlanta

*Marisol Miranda of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., defeated Karen Davis of Norcross, making her pro debut, in the only fight of the evening featuring women

*Saeed Hawkins of Philadelphia beat Leo Laudat of Atlanta

*Paul Delgado of Atlanta bested Miguel Alverez of Cincinnati

*And, Wayland Willingham of Atlanta defeated Leo Martinez of Mexico City.

The fights were held at the Georgia Mountains Center.
