S. Arkansas rallies past West Georgia

MAGNOLIA, ARKANSAS - Damian Melancon threw a 12-yard pass to wide receiver Torrance Hoye on Saturday to seal a 45-38 win for Southern Arkansas over West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference game. The score was a 31-24 Southern Arkansas lead in the third quarter and West Georgia tied with touchdown on a nine-yard run by tailback Michael Alexis with 9:07 remaining in the game.<br>

But Southern Arkansas took the lead right back with a 74-yard drive and a 14-yard touchdown pass from Melancon to Hoye to make it 37-31. The scales tipped again when West Georgia tailback Javari Taylor made a four-yard run to regain the lead at 38-37 with 2:03 left.<br>

In the next minute Southern Arkansas snatched the win, when Melancon completed a 10-yard pass to Hoye to start a run that resulted in the winning touchdown.<br>

West Georgia rushed 46 times for 266 yards and had 241 passing yards while Southern Arkansas rushed 25 times for 174 with 170 passing yards. West Georgia was 21-of-31 on pass attempts with one interception. Southern Arkansas was 14-of-23.<br>

West Georgia best Southern Arkansas on total offensive yards 507 to 344.
