Gainesville Ballet's entry judged 'Best of Show' in scarecrow contest

GAINESVILLE - Interactive Neighborhood for Kids, Inc., or INK, Gainesville's "hands-on" children's museum, says the Gainesville Ballet entry as "Best of Show" for the 3rd annual Scarecrow on the Square, "A Neighborhood Celebration" contest.

Over 60 scarecrows were submitted this year.

All of them, including the six-foot tall Gainesville Ballet Nutcracker themed scarecrow, will be on display on the downtown Gainesville square thru 5:00 Saturday afternoon.

Other winners include: in the school category Mrs. Joyce Corley's Kindergarten class at Mount Vernon Elementary; Ms. Leigh Livingston's first grade class at Centennial Elementary; and also from Mount Vernon Elementary School, Mrs. Sylvia Bell's Kindergarten class.

Top scarecrows decorated by local businesses are: Zena's Spa and Salon, Hall County Parks and Leisure, and Ralph Waldo's Books.

Best scarecrows in the organization category: Gainesville Chorale, the Freedom Alliance Fund and the Boys and Girls Club of Gainesville and Hall County.

And the top winners in the family category: the Joe Diaz and the Mike Weeks families, both of Gainesville.

All proceeds from the event are to benefit Interactive Neighborhood for Kids, Inc.
