Delta jet makes unscheduled stop in Ireland after bomb threat, police pronounce plane safe

<p>A Delta Air Lines jet traveling from Germany to the United States made an emergency landing in Ireland Sunday because of a bomb threat that turned out to be unsubstantiated, police and airport authorities said.</p><p>Frankfurt-to-Atlanta Flight 27 landed at Shannon airport in the west of Ireland after crew discovered a note in a toilet suggesting there could be a bomb aboard the plane, said Siobhan Moore, spokeswoman for airport operating company Aer Rianta.</p><p>Delta said the plane landed at about 1245 GMT, three hours after takeoff from Frankfurt. Hours later, investigators finished a search of the plane and determined that no bombs were aboard, said Martin Casey of the Irish police.</p><p>They had waited for the jets scheduled landing time of around 1900 GMT to pass before beginning their search.</p><p>Moore said the 147 passengers were questioned by police at the airport before being brought to local hotels for the night.</p><p>The Boeing 767-300 was parked away from the airport terminal after it landed, Moore said. Passengers were allowed to reclaim their bags after the scheduled landing time passed, Moore said.</p><p>Delta said the passengers would be flown out of Shannon Monday on Flight 9606, leaving at 1 p.m. (1300 GMT) and arriving in Atlanta at 4:50 p.m. local time (2150 GMT).</p><p>Last April, a United Airlines flight from London to New York City made an emergency landing at Shannon after a crew member found a note with a bomb threat in a seatback pocket.</p><p>Police searched the plane and questioned passengers, but found nothing suspicious.</p>
