BUFORD - Darius Walker got his record and the championship too.

The Buford senior ran for 211 yards and one touchdown to lead the Wolves to their second consecutive Class AA title and their third straight overall in a 31-3 romp over Charlton County Saturday night.

Walker, who finished the year with 46 touchdowns - one better than the record previously held by Charles Grant and Herschel Walker - said as he approached the record he didn't care whether he got it, as long as he won the title again.

"It feels so great to do it at home. Now we can can set back and enjoy it a little bit," Walker said. "The offensive line really deserves the credit for this. They have been tremendous all year and we did it as a team and a family.

"I wasn't worried about it because I just wanted to finish my career at Buford with another title. That's the only thing I cared about."

The Wolves (15-0) also ran their state-best win streak to 45 games.

They didn't him to need to score much as he and the Buford offensive line controlled the game and kept the Indians' powerful offense off the field in the second half. buford finished with 291 yards rushing and did not throw a pass in the second half.

But Buford coach Dexter Wood said it was the defense that made it happen.

"Defense wins championships," Wood said in a postgame speech to the Buford crowd. "They have been outstanding all year long and did it again (tonight). This senior class has been amazing."

They held the Indians and Jeremy Privett, who came in averaging 260 yards passing a game, to just 84 total yards. Privett finished 23-of-36 passing but did get a completion over 23 yards the entire game.

Charlton (12-3) jumped out to a 3-0 lead - only the third time all year Buford trailed - after a Zach Smith fumble in the first quarter.

But as has been the fashion over the past three years, that got the Wolves going. They scored the final 31 points, with Marsharn Austin scoring twice, once on a 44-yard punt return to give them a 7-3 lead and the momentum, and then on a 36-yard interception return to cap the win.

"The guys did a good job of blocking and I just found a whole and went," Austin said about the punt return. "It was a team effort. Everything was great."
