The Dragons, who are the three-time defending Class A champs, posted 83 points through the quarterfinal rounds. Dawson County is second with 61.5 points.
The semifinal and final rounds will be held Saturday in the 16-team field. Points are awarded by individual winners.
It's the second time in two weeks the two teams have battled for a tournament title. Jefferson won the John Smith Mountaineer title in Lumpkin County while Dawson County finished third in that tournament.
After the first day, South Forysth was third with 57 points, North Forsyth fourth with 48.5 and Lumpkin County fifth with 47. Stephens County was sixth with 34 points and Apalachee and Forsyth Central were tied for seventh with 30.
Gainesville, which had two wrestlers not make weight in the weigh-ins, was ninth with 29 points. Jackson County was 10th with 28; West Hall 11th with 24; Pickens 12th with 22, and Fannin County 13th with 14 points.
Social Circle and the House team were tied for 14th with 8 points and Banks County was 16th with 4 points.
Jefferson coach Doug Thurmond said his squad has performed well.
"We've got some strong kids and theyv've worked hard," Thurmon said. "It's not over, though. Dawson and the Forsyth teams still have a lot of guys left and we'll have to wrestle well (Saturday) to win it."
