(Tempe, Arizona-AP) -- It wasn't for the national championship like the last time, but Ohio State will take it. The seventh-ranked Buckeyes jumped on Kansas State for 21 quick points and held off the eighth-ranked Wildcats 35-to-28 to win the Fiesta Bowl.
Craig Krenzel threw four touchdown passes -- two each to Michael Jenkins and Santonio Holmes for the Buckeyes, who won last year's national title in the Fiesta Bowl by beating Miami in double overtime
Krenzel's four T-D passes matched a career high. His 17-yard TD pass to Jenkins put the Buckeyes up 21-to-0 midway through the second quarter. Jenkins' eight-yard catch with just under five minutes left in the third made it 28-to-14.
Kansas State quarterback Ell Roberson, accused Thursday of sexually assaulting a woman, started but struggled for much of the game. Roberson scored on a one-yard sneak late in the fourth quarter to cut the lead to seven points. Roberson then directed K-State on one final drive, but the Wildcats ran out of time.
Ohio State finished 11-and-2. K-State winds up 11-and-4.
Kansas State did not look like the same team that routed Oklahoma 35-to-7 to win the Big 12 championship in its last outing.
