Lady Elephants fall to No. 2 in AAA

GAINESVILLE - For the first time this season the Gainesville girls basketball team is not ranked No. 1 in Class AAA.

The Lady Elephants (9-3) fell to second behind Perry in the latest Class AAA gabasketball.net poll released Monday night.were stunned in the Lanierland Tournament by Johnson, which is ranked fourth in the latest poll.

The Lady Knights (10-3) lost to No. 6 Flowery branch in the Lanierland finals and have gone 4-0 since then during the holiday break.

The Lady Falcons (10-3) were shocked by North Hall last week yet still climbed three spots by virtue of their Lanierland title run.

For other northeast Georgia teams, Elbert County is in a tie with Westminster for seventh and Franklin County is 14th. White County, which had been ranked earlier in the season, fell out of the first rankings for 2004.

The East Hall girls also had been ranked earlier but also did not make the first rankings of the new year.
