Cherokee Gun Club President Gates Scoville said members voted not to extend the Mule Camp contract beyond 2005. The Mule Camp move is being made even though there are two years left on the current contract.
Gainesville-Hall County Convention & Visitors Bureau President Helen Fincher said the springtime event has always had a "significant economic" impact on the area - "with an abundance of hotel room nights and flourishing expenditures in hotels, restaurants, and area shots.
"(It had) about a million dollar economic impact. This was a significant event and it was one that was a lot of fun and it's one that we really are going to miss," Fincher said.
CVB officials add "we have enjoyed hosting the Shootout at Mule Camp's Single Action Shooting Society Great Southeast Regional Championship of Cowboy Action Shooting...(and) wish them well in their new location."
