GAINESVILLE - Fannin County boys basketball coach Pete Manuel picked his jacket, which he had tossed aside earlier in disgust, and slowly walked to the lockeroom with fire in his eyes.

His Rebels trailed Chestatee at halftime 33-29 after an 18-5 run by the War Eagles erased a nine-point lead.

"I yelled, screamed and then calmed down and we discussed what we needed to do to win," Manuel said.

While the exact content of the conversation was not revealed, it worked as Fannin used a 12-0 run in the third quarter to rally for a 70-59 Region 7-AAA North win Tuesday night.

"Basically we just did a better job of handling their press and forcing them to miss a few shots. I thought we responded very well in the second half," Manuel said.

Chestatee (2-11, 1-2) used a 13-2 run to close out the first half to take the lead. The War Eagles were up 35-33 in the third quarter before Fannin (4-13, 1-2) exploded on a 17-3 run for a 50-38 lead, scoring 12 straight points at one stretch.

Chestatee climbed to within 64-57 late in the fourth quarter behind Jesus Cantu, who finished with a game-high 28 points, but could get no closer.

Dusty Jarrard chipped in 12 but Corey Black was held to just 6 points, only two in the second half.

Fannin was led by Shawn Scearce's 20 points. Thomas Arp finished with 11 for the Rebels, including three 3-pointers.
