It didn't live up to the expectations.
The Class AAA No. 1-ranked Gainesville girls basketball team rallied from an early first-half deficit to cruise to a 64-50, Region 7-AAA South win over No. 9 Flowery Branch Tuesday night.
The Lady Red Elephants (13-3, 3-0) used a 24-6 second quarter run to erase a 12-10 deficit and blow the game open. They outscored the Lady Falcons (10-5, 0-2) 41-16 in the second and third periods combined and lead by as many as 25 points at one stretch.
Senior Tasha Humphrey poured in 21 points, her best production in nearly two weeks as she nurses a sore ankle, to lead Gainesville. Kita Waller had 13 points and Lauren Niles 10 for the Lady Elephants.
Flowery Branch, which features some of the area's best young talent, has struggled of late losing three of four games since winning the Lanierland Tournament last month.
Junior Beth Adcock led the Lady Falcons with 19 points. Freshman Courtney Newton finished with 15 points and senior Kristina Tyler added 10.
