CLEVELAND - With standout guard D.J. Galbiati under the weather, White County girls basketball coach Laura Burkett knew it would be a battle Tuesday night against Gilmer County, despite the Lady Bobcats being winless in Region 7-AAA North play.
She was prophetic as the Lady Warriors needed a 22-9 surge in the fourth quarter to finally shake off Gilmer in a 54-37 win.
"D.J. wasn't feeling good and that hurt us most of the game. We just let (Gilmer) hang around too long," Burkett said. "We finally came alive in the fourth quarter but we haven't been playing up to the level we were at early in the season. We've done just good enough to win the last three games."
Galbiati didn't seemed fazed much by her sickness pouring in a game-high 23 points. Molly McDonald added 14 for White County (11-7, 5-0) which has won four straight and 6-of-7 games since the Christmas break.
The Lady Warriors will travel to North Hall Friday in a key subregion game. The two teams have split two meetings already this season.
Lindsay Weissinger led Gilmer (1-16, 0-5) with 17 points.
