CLEVELAND - The battle for Region 7-AAA supremacy between the No. 1-ranked East Hall and No. 3-ranked White County boys basketball teams had the early makings of a classic Saturday night.

But the Vikings, in typical fashion, exploded for a 14-6 run in the second quarter to pull away for a 96-81 win on the road in front of a packed White County gym.

East Hall (18-2) led just 29-21 after the first quarter and White County closed to within 42-40 midway through the second quarter. But after the run the Vikings led 56-46 at halftime and they never trailed the rest of the way.

The Vikings have won six straight and 17-of-its-last-18 games. White County has lost two straight for the first time this season. The Warriors were upset by North Hall on Friday.

The Warriors (15-5) didn't quit against East Hall, however, staging several rallies in the second half. They got within 64-59 in the third quarter and then pulled within 79-75 midway through the fourth.

But the Vikings finished the game on a 16-6 run to put the game away.

"We had some foul trouble early and that hurt us, but overall I thought we did a good job," East Hall coach Seth Vining said.

Junior Keldrick Coleman had a monster game for East Hall with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks. His play inside was instrumental with Brody Langston out of the lineup.

"I didn't get to play against Flowery Branch and I knew I had to step up (against White County)," Coleman said. "I feel like I'm a leader on this team and I needed to help us win this game."

Jerrenda Wheeler added 17 points and Lee Coleman and Shunquise Glenn had 10 each for East Hall.

Heath Vinson led White County with 21 points and Adam Cash added 15. Jeff Belflower had 11 and Weston Fuller 10 for the Warriors.
