GAINESVILLE - With three teams in a battle for second place in the Region 7-AAA South girls race, the final week of the regular season offers some intriguing matchups - beginning Friday night.

And the No. 1-ranked Gainesville girls are right in the middle of the action.

Only 2 1/2 games separate Johnson, Flowery Branch and East Hall for second behind the Lady Red Elephants (18-3, 6-0) with three games left, and Gainesville plays all three in the final week.

Johnson (16-5, 3-2) is ranked third and plays host to East Hall (12-8, 2-4) Friday. East Hall has lost three straight subregion games since beating Johnson two weeks ago. The Lady Knights are playing well having won 3 of their last 4 games overall.

Gainesville plays host to Flowery Branch Fand has won eight straight since losing to Johnson in the Lanierland Tournament.

In Region 7-AAA North action, surging Fannin County (18-4, 6-1) plays host to Chestatee (7-12, 3-4) Friday. The Lady Rebels moved into a tie with White County last week after beating the Lady Warriors and have won 8 of their last 10 games. Chestatee had its three-game win streak snapped Tuesday at North Hall.

The Lady Trojans (8-10, 4-3) snapped a three-game losing streak with their win over Chestatee. A win would almost assure them of a third place finish in the subregion.

White County (12-9, 6-1) plays host to Pickens County. The Lady Warriors have lost two straight.

West Hall is off Friday night in Region 7-AAA.
