Chestatee softballers whip Gilmer in region play

GAINESVILLE - The No. 3-ranked Chestatee girls softball team whipped Gilmer County Tuesday, 17-4, in Region 7-AAA action.<br> <br> The game was called after five innings because of the mercy rule.<br> <br> The Lady War Eagles (15-4, 5-1) were led by Sara Applegarth, who pitched a three-hitter and struck out four. She also went 1-for-3 from the plate with a triple and three RBIs.<br> <br> Taylor Burke and Carrie Brookshire each had three hits to lead Chestatee. Brookshire drove in three runs. Brooke Puckett had two hits.<br> <br> Chelsey Hatfield, Mallory McCord, megan Shulerand Greta Lang Henry each had one hit. Shuler drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double.<br> <br> Chestatee blew open a close game with an 11-run inning.
