CLEVELAND - White County will go for its first win of the season when it plays host to Gilmer County Friday night in Region 7-AAA.
The Warriors (0-2, 0-2) showed marked improvement last week despite a 20-7 loss to North Hall. They were trounced 56-6 by Gainesville in their opener.
It is expected that sophomore Trevor Elrod will get the call again at quarterback. Coach Mark Wilson last week moved Nick Winters, the starter against Gainesville, to receiver in an effort to strenghten the receiving corps.
Gilmer (1-1, 1-1) lost to Fannin County in its opener but rebounded last week with a 13-7 win over Flowery Branch. But, Gilmer had to hang on holding the Falcons out of the end zone in the final seconds of the game to preserve the win.
In other Region 7-AAA action, Fannin (1-1, 1-1) will play host to Pickens (0-2, 0-2).
Pickens has yet to score a point in the 2003 season, losing to West Hall and Johnson.
In other Region 7-AAA games, West Hall travels to Flowery Branch; Johnson plays host to Chestatee and East Hall plays at North Hall. Gainesville is off this week.
