Both teams had been undefeated going into Monday's game, playing for a chance to remain in the winner's bracket and face the Cincinnati Midland Redskins, who defeated Puerto Rico earlier Monday evening.
Roberto Lopez opened the game for Encinitas with a single to right field, then Cole Garner sent a solo shot between first and second base. Lopez was thrown out at home when he tried to score on the hit.
The Yankees' Brad Emaus took first on an error and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the Yankees were unable to score.
Yankee pitcher Tim Ladd loaded the bases in the top of the fourth, and two Reds scored on Yankee errors, giving the Reds the lead at 2-1.
