Jackson County proceeds with plans for new courthouse

JEFFERSON - The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has voted to start construction on a new courthouse - in spite of a lawsuit that has been filed over the financing of the complex.

County officials say delaying the start of work on the project would significantly increase the cost of the work.

A suit that was filed by a group of citizens last month contends that the lease-purchase arrangement the county plans to use to finance the courthouse is unconstitutional.
