Marietta takes Connie Mack World Series

FARMINGTON, N.M. - The Marietta East Cobb Yankees won the Connie Mack World Series Thursday by edging out the Cincinnati Midland Redskins 5-4. <br>

The Redskins scored first in the top of the third inning. Cameron Maybin led with a single over the shortstop's head. Maybin stole second and took third on an error by Yankee third baseman Brad Feltes. Tom King hit the grounder that scored Maybin. <br>

Yankee centerfielder Danny Panye and shortstop Brad Emaus scored in the fourth on a shot to right field by Jon Mark Owings. <br>
<br>
In the top of the fifth, Yankee catcher Nick Scherer sent a hard hit ball past the second basemen for a single, and then took second on a Midland error, which put Payne on first. Whit Robbins picked up two more RBI's when he sent a long fly ball to centerfield, scoring both Scherer and Payne, and increasing the Yankee lead 4-1. <br>

The Redskin's got one run back when Cameron Maybin hit one over the right field fence. Second baseman Allan Cattrysse followed with a homer of his own, cutting the Yankee lead to one. <br>

Dexter Fowler scored for the Yankees in the sixth on a base hit by designated hitter Trey Sheffield. <br>
<br>
Cattrysse scored in the bottom of the seventh for Midland after he was walked and designated hitter Robby Grinestaff sent a single up the middle.
