FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS - Arkansas coach moved Cedric Washington to wide receiver for Friday's practice, giving the sophomore a change from quarterback.

Washington had been behind center for insurance, and Nutt said the work reflected in Washington's performance Friday.

``He really did some good things. He has speed and his knowledge at quarterback gives him an edge knowing the routes,'' Nutt said. ``He's still the next quarterback to go in the game if something were to happen to Matt (Jones) or Ryan (Sorahan), because he is the most knowledgeable.''

The Razorbacks on Saturday begin two-a-day workouts. Friday, the team held a full-contact, two-hour workout in pads.

Nutt said his players are getting up to speed.

``We are throwing a lot at the players right now,'' Nutt said. ``We are throwing the whole book at them and sometimes it makes it look like they don't know what they are doing, and a lot of them don't. But, the good thing is that we are getting better fundamentally and that is what you look for.''

Nutt said the work is about to become more intense.

``The grind begins (Saturday) for them,'' Nutt said. ``We're going to try to prepare them for this next week of two-a-days. The sun is coming out and making it hot and it's not easy. It's always tough, but that is where you find out what our guys have got.''

Nutt added the younger players will see plenty of time in scrimmage situations while the starters get fewer reps.

``The first team offensive line and guys like Caleb Miller, Clarke Moore and the others we know will start won't get as much work. But, guys like James Johnson and Jayson Johnson, Desmond Simms and John Jackson who are fighting for a position will get more time.''

Wide receiver David Thompson is scheduled for an MRI on his right leg, which he injured during Thursday's practice.

The team is off Sunday.
