ELLIJAY - After a several hour search an escaped prisoner was back in custody in Gilmer County Tuesday afternoon.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Andy Key says Ricky Lee Verner, 27, was captured just before 2:30P.M..

"He was caught in the City of Ellijay hiding under a porch or deck." Key says.

"Verner escaped through an air vent in his cell, went into the attic and onto the roof." Key adds.

As a matter of safety schools in the county were under a lockdown until Verner was recaptured.

Key says Verner was in the jail for theft and is a convicted bank robber from Tennessee.

He is serving a 12 year sentence for three bank robberies and was brought back to Georgia to face the other theft charges.
