White County coroner Ricky Barrett identified the victims as Richard and Barbara Soloman, both age 71.
The couple lived in the gated community of Innsbruck.
According to Barrett, Richard Solomon confessed to shooting his wife before shooting himself Sunday morning.
"He called down to the security shack and said he had killed his wife," Barrett said.
When officials arrived, they found Mrs. Solomon dead and her husband wounded.
"An autopsy showed that Mrs. Soloman died of a gunshot wound to the neck and Mr. Soloman of a gunshot wound to the head," Barrett said.
Richard Soloman did not die at the scene but did die about two hours later at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Both were killed by a .38-caliber bullet wounds.
