Young Harris star signs with Orioles

BALTIMORE - Nick Markakis of Woodstock has signed with the Baltimore Orioles - just over a week after he was the seventh overall selection in the baseball draft. <br> <br> The 19-year-old Markakis was introduced on the field before last night&#39;s game against the Chicago Cubs. <br> <br> Markakis hit .429 with 21 home runs, 92 RBI&#39;s and 19 stolen bases last season for Young Harris College. He also struck out 160 batters and finished with a 1.68 ERA and a 12-0 record. <br> <br> Markakis is projected to be a corner outfielder with the Orioles. He will begin at Class A Aberdeen, the New York-Penn League affiliate owned by former Oriole Cal Ripken.
