As the Access media critic, I can see all of my movies for free, courtesy of my neighborhood multi-plex, Movies 400 in Cumming. So why have my movie reviews been so slow in coming?

I've been actively rehearsing for "Brigadoon," opening tonight (June 12th) at the Creekside Youth and Community Center building in Cumming, Georgia. Those of you who took the movie "Waiting for Guffman" too seriously are already scoffing. But as for the rest of you, community theater is something truly to be experienced.

My college degree is in speech and theater, and truth be told, I've always favored the theater half. Some of us never outgrow dress-up and make-believe. And watching a community theater experience is not unlike the enjoyment many get out of high school sports as opposed to professional, and increasingly college. The performers there on stage, the people running the light and sound boards, and the people taking tickets don't get paid. Their paycheck is in the applause of a grateful audience after a job well done.

We've been rehearsing "Brigadoon" since late March, when we all assembled for a read-through of the show, which focuses on the misadventures of two contemporary New Yorkers who stumble upon a mystical Scottish town that only exists for one day every one hundred years. I play the acerbic sidekick to the admittedly sweet-to-the-point-of-naïve romantic lead. And I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel like I've got the best lines, with none of that yucky dancing and singing! This has truly been a dream role.

There is nothing in my life that I enjoy more than what I'm doing up on that stage, and that holds true for a lot of my fellow performers. Please come and see what makes us tick! You'll find the show enjoyable, fast-paced, funny and endearingly romantic. And if you take the time and modest expense to see what we've done, I promise you. I'll get around to seeing "The Matrix Reloaded."

"Brigadoon" plays throughout the month of June, 7:30pm Th-Sat; 3pm Sun., at 673 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming, GA 30041.
