Ten arrested in Marietta baseball game melee

MARIETTA - Ten people were arrested after a fight broke out during a youth baseball game between an East Cobb Baseball Association team and their Alabama opponents. <br> <br> Five adults and five 15-year-olds were charged after police were called at 8:43 p.m. Sunday, Cobb County police spokesman Brody Staud said. One person, an adult, suffered a broken nose, but no other serious injuries were reported. <br> <br> The East Cobb team is a regional powerhouse that plays teams from other cities or states during the summer. <br> <br> East Cobb played a team from Montgomery, Ala., and was well ahead in the sixth inning, East Cobb president Guerry Baldwin said. A dispute arose after an umpire called an East Cobb player safe at second base. <br> <br> Baldwin did not know what the score was when the game erupted into violence, but did say he&#39;ll do whatever he can to prevent the two teams from meeting again. <br> <br> Those arrested include Anthony Dye, 28, of Marietta; Veronica Jefferson, 37, of Smiths, Ala.; Brad Blakey, 40, of Alpharetta; and Ray Ogle, 36, of Opelika, Ala., all of whom were charged with public affray, Staud said. David Swanson, 40, of Woodstock, was charged with battery, also a misdemeanor, Staud said. <br> <br> The juveniles, all 15, were released to their parents. Four were charged with public affray and one was charged with aggravated assault, Staud said.
