CORVALLIS, OREGON - Esera Tuaolo still remembers how he yanked down Philadelphia Eagle quarterback Randall Cunningham to record his first NFL sack in 1991.

And suddenly he felt an overwhelming sense of fear. Someone out there knew his secret.

Somebody knew he was homosexual.

The former Oregon State defensive tackle -- who also played for the Falcons -- said Wednesday night in Corvallis, Oregon, that he was scared someone would out him. The event where Tuaolo spoke was sponsored by several school groups, including the Oregon State University athletic department.

Tuaolo played for the Beavers from 1986-1990.

During nine NFL seasons he played for Green Bay, Atlanta, Minnesota, Jacksonville and Carolina. He says almost every day of it was a living hell.

The 35-year-old finally came out last October on HBO's ``Real Sports.'' It makes him one of the few former professional athletes to acknowledge his homosexuality.
