Franklin County truck driver charged in N.C. van wreck

WILLIAMSON - A tractor-trailer driver remains in jail Sundy after being charged in an accident on U-S 64 in Martin County, North Carolina that critically injured four state prisoners. <br> <br> Tony Temple, 43, of Royston, was charged with driving under the influence of prescription drugs in Thursday&#39;s accident, according to the State Highway Patrol. <br> <br> Temple&#39;s truck slammed into the rear of a Correction Department van carrying ten prisoners from Tyrrell Prison Work Camp near Creswell, North Carolina. <br> <br> Four prisoners critically injured in the crash were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Neither their identities nor conditions were available Sunday. <br> <br> The other six prisoners were treated at a Williamston hospital and released. <br> <br> Temple, who was treated for minor injuries at the scene, also was cited for reckless driving and various commercial motor vehicle violations. <br> <br> Temple was in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail in Windsor on a $25-thousand bond. His court hearing is set for July 7th.
