Joining the lineup in June is "Fantasy Island," the kitschy "Love Boat" lead-out of the seventies starring Ricardo Montalban and the late Herve Villechaize.
Returning to TV Land are the classic supernatural sitcoms "I Dream of Jeannie," "Bewitched" and "The Munsters." Seems like Herman and the gang just left, doesn't it? "Jeannie" and "Bewitched" were on the network before, but for the first time in syndication, the first season black and white episodes will run as well as the more popular color installments.
For the first time in over a decade, you'll see Darrin and Samantha meet and fall in love. You'll see Tony Nelson discover the magic bottle, and discover the episode in which his buddy Roger finds out about Jeannie. By the way, they were mere captains in the initial season. And what was with that first theme song???? Both "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie" will be kicked off with weekend marathons, beginning Memorial Day weekend.
I hate to admit it, but I'll probably pay a few visits to "Fantasy Island." I remember loving the show initially. Sure, it was a very small step above "The Love Boat," what with the bi-weekly visits by B stars like Carol Lynley and Stuart Whitman. But "Island" also, particularly in the early going, had an element of dark mystery to it. Mr. Roarke (Montalban) was clearly a good guy, but just what was he capable of? And most importantly, why did he see the need to keep Tattoo (Villechaize) around?
It will be fun to introduce my six year old daughter to the antics of Samantha and Jeannie as well. She's been enjoying Dad's "My Favorite Martian" tapes, but she's always preferred witches. Come to think of it, she might want to visit Herman and Grandpa while she's at it.
By the way, you'll want to say goodbye (for now) to "The Brady Bunch," "Gidget," and "The Flying Nun." Those shows will all sign off to make room for the new arrivals.
