ATLANTA - Atlanta Braves outfielder Gary Sheffield fired his agent, Scott Boras, and said he may represent himself in future contract negotiations.

In a report Wednesday in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Sheffield said, ``Like I told Scott, nothing personal. I will say he wasn't happy. But it's something I thought about for a long time. You have to look at the state of baseball. And where I'm at in my career, I don't need anybody to represent me.''

The 34-year-old Sheffield is making $11 million in the final season of a six-year, 61 million contract he signed with Florida. When he negotiates his next deal, he would prefer not to pay Boras' five percent fee.

Sheffield said, ``I have a pretty good idea about which teams need my services, or me staying here.''

Sheffield is batting .349 with 13 home runs and 46 RBI's this season, but he said the Braves have made it clear they will not negotiate with him during the season.
