Campbell homer leads Carolina past LSU

BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA - Michael Campbell hit a three-run home run as South Carolina beat LSU 8-5 Saturday and kept the Tigers from reclaiming first place in the Southeastern Conference. <br>

The Gamecocks used a pair of fourth-inning home runs, including Campbell's, and six runs in the middle three innings to even the three-game series 1-1. <br>
<br>
LSU (20-10-1, 8-2-1 SEC) is battling for top spot in the SEC. <br>
<br>
The Tigers missed an opportunity to reclaim first place in the overall standings Saturday with Kentucky defeating league leader Mississippi St., 8-2, and Alabama downing archrival Auburn, 3-1. <br>

South Carolina (20-11, 5-6) put the game out of reach with a four-run fourth, which saw Kevin Mellilo add a two-out solo shot to Campbell's homerun. <br>
<br>
LSU's Aaron Hill tied a school record for hits by going 5-for-5. Hill's RBI double in the third briefly tied the game 1-1 in the third. <br>
<br>
David Marchbanks scattered 10 hits over 7 2/3 innings with no walks and struck out six to improve to 6-2. Bo Pettit (5-1) took the loss. <br>
<br>
The game was delayed for two hours by rain. A severe thunderstorm drenched the field and dugouts.
