ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Running back Olandis Gary is leaving a crowded backfield in Denver, agreeing to terms on a contract with with the Buffalo Bills.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. A telephone call to Frank Murtha, Gary's agent, was not returned.

Gary, 27, who played college football at Georgia, isn't likely to be a starter for the Bills either. He is expected to back up Travis Henry after spending last season as a second-stringer behind Clinton Portis.

Gary's best pro season came in 1999 when, as a rookie, he finished with 1,159 yards rushing and seven touchdowns. He tore ligaments in his right knee in 2000 and broke his left leg late in November 2001.

Last season, Gary rushed 37 times for 147 yards and one touchdown and caught 18 passes for 148 yards. He figured to be a third option, at best, in Denver this season behind Portis, the 2002 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Mike Anderson, who won that honor in 2000.
