Gamecocks hammer Ole Miss

OXFORD, MISSISSIPPI - Bryan Triplett was 4-for-5 with four RBIs and Kevin Melillo added four RBIs as South Carolina beat Mississippi 13-2 Saturday afternoon. <br>

South Carolina (28-16, 10-10 Southeastern Conference) jumped out to an early lead, highlighted by a three-run home run by Melillo in the first inning. <br>
<br>
Triplett followed in the third inning with a two-run home run to make the game 6-2. The Gamecocks increased their lead to 10-2 in the fourth inning. <br>
<br>
The Rebels (26-18, 11-9 SEC) were led by Chad Sterbens, who was 3-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 12 games, and Matt Tolbert, who was also 3-for-4 with an RBI. <br>
<br>
The Gamecocks out-hit the Rebels 17-12. <br>
<br>
David Marchbanks (10-2) earned the win, striking out six and allowing 12 hits over eight innings. <br>
<br>
Mark Holliman (3-4) was the losing pitcher. He allowed seven hits and struck out five. <br>
<br>
The two teams will play again Sunday afternoon in Oxford.
