GHSA adds sports champions from era of segregation to website

THOMASTON - The Georgia High School Association has placed state sports champions from predominantly black high schools on its website. <br> <br> The GHSA on Monday began listing those champions from the Georgia Interscholastic Association, the governing body for those schools from 1947-70 on its site (www.ghaa.netwebsite). Before 1967, state law prohibited those schools from competing in the GHSA. <br> <br> In October, the GHSA&#39;s executive committee voted unanimously to recognize the GIA champions. <br> <br> Stan Lomax, who won two GIA football championships at Risley in Brunswick, said ``We are very pleased that the GHSA has come closer to recognizing the coaches and athletes of that era.&#39;&#39;
