Mays 49, Hephzibah 44, OT

ATLANTA - Chloe Jones scored four points in overtime to lead Mays to a 49-44 victory over Hephzibah and the Class AAAA girls state championship Friday afternoon. <br> <br> Mays center Ramona Okonya missed two free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining in regulation, sending the game into overtime tied at 42. <br> <br> The Lady Raiders (23-10), stymied by Hephzibah&#39;s tight defense, trailed by as many as nine three times in the first half. Hephzibah (29-5) shot 50 percent from the floor in the first quarter and led 22-15 at halftime. <br> <br> Mays began its comeback in the third quarter, limiting Hephzibah to one-for-ten from the field in the period. The Lady Raiders took their first lead since the early moments of the game with 7:10 left in the third quarter on a basket by Okonya. <br> <br> From that point, Hephzibah never led, but there were three ties including the one that sent the game into overtime. <br> <br> Nikkita Gartrell led Mays with 14 points, and Megan Callier added 12. <br> <br> Tiffany Drayton, scored 15 points for Hephzibah, including their only overtime basket. Jacquelyn Nelson added eleven.
