GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville City Council learned Thursday that the number of rounds of golf played at the Chattahoochee Golf Course by out-of-towners has declined over the past six months.

Club pro Mark Bowen says that's probably because of the economy and the number of new courses that continue to open in the area.

Bowen says there are plans to better "market" the course to out-of-towners, "We're going to try to work with the Chamber of Commerce and local groups to get people from out of town."

Bowen says that, overall, the play is down about 25 percent in recent months at golf courses in and around Atlanta - primarily because of the economy.
