Bus driver gets probation following bus crash that injured 46

WOODBINE - The driver of a bus that overturned on a highway, injuring all 46 student passengers, was sentenced to 10 years probation Monday. <br> <br> Darol Wayne Britt, 40, pleaded no contest in a Camden County courthouse to one count of reckless driving and seven counts of serious injury by vehicle one charge for each of the most severely injured students. <br> <br> The music students from Massey Hill Classical High School in North Carolina were injured on the chartered bus April 6, 2001, a mile north of the Florida line had been en route to a music competition in Orlando, Fla. <br> <br> Britt, of Fayetteville, N.C., said a motorist cut him off. But investigators in Georgia said he fell asleep while driving. <br> <br> If Britt completes his probation without incident he won&#39;t have a criminal record because he entered his plea as a first offender, said his attorney, Clyde Urquhart. Britt still faces several civil cases in North Carolina. <br> <br> Superior Court Judge Stephen Scarlett also fined Britt $1,000 and banned him from driving a commercial vehicle in Georgia for 10 years. He ordered Britt to perform 80 hours of community service.
