TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - For one of America's top college prospects, the future is all about a number.

Ernie Sims the Third -- a 225-pound running back and linebacker from North Florida Christian High School -- likes Auburn, Georgia and Florida State.

He also wants to keep his high school uniform number, 34. But that number is retired at all three schools.

Bo Jackson and Herschel Walker -- both Heisman Trophy winners -- wore the number at Auburn and Georgia respectively. Two-time All American wide receiver Ron Sellers wore it at Florida State.

But Sims isn't wanting the number -- made even more famous in the NFL by the late Walter Payton -- because of Walker, Jackson or Sellers.

Sims' high-school coach -- Tim Cokely -- says it goes back to Sims' brother when he played in Tallahassee, Florida.

Sellers -- now a West Palm Beach insurance executive who still holds most of Florida State's receiving records 35 years after he played -- has given coach Bobby Bowden the go-ahead to let Sims wear the number.
