Thomson physician receives 41 months in prison

AUGUSTA - A Thomson physician has been sentenced to 41 months in prison after pleading guilty to Medicaid fraud and illegally writing prescriptions for the pain medication OxyContin. <br> <br> Doctor Burton Barmore the third also was fined $15,000 and ordered to serve three years probation at Tuesday&#39;s hearing before U.S. District Court Chief Judge Dudley Bowen Junior. <br> <br> Barmore told the judge before his sentenced was imposed, ``Everything I stood for has crumbled away. I know I have disgraced myself. I know I have disgraced my profession.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> Bowen scolded Barmore for denying at an earlier hearing that he was on any medications or had ever taken OxyContin, and then admitting it just before he was to be given a drug screen at the court&#39;s insistence. <br> <br> The judge said, ``It was nothing more than a lie while under oath in this courtroom.
