COLUMBUS - Columbus State University has bought a house at Oxford University in England to accommodate its students studying abroad there.

The Spencer House is a three-story Edwardian residence that will house CSU students and faculty members on sabbatical.

The purchase was made possible by a grant from the J. Kyle Spencer and Sara D. Spencer Charitable Trust. The Spencers initiated the schools' summer study program at Oxford 15 years ago after they took summer courses there in the early 1980s.

``Now, with our own house, we can offer our faculty and students a yearlong experience in English liberal arts at this great institution,'' said Kyle Spencer.

The house positions CSU near larger schools such as the University of Georgia, Stanford University and Williams College (Mass.), which administer yearlong programs through Oxford.

The house will accommodate three separate CSU study abroad programs, beginning next month with a literature class.
