Fifth member of state school board resigns

ATLANTA - A fifth member of the state school board has resigned at the request of Gov. Sonny Perdue. <br> <br> Bruce Jackson sent his letter of resignation to Perdue on Friday. The Atlanta lawyer served as chairman of the board&#39;s budget committee. <br> <br> Jackson&#39;s resignation gives Perdue one more vacancy to fill on the 13-member board. <br> <br> The Republican governor asked all of the board members appointed by his predecessor, Democrat Roy Barnes, to resign so that he could reshape the board, which helps run Georgia&#39;s 1.3 million-student public school system. <br> <br> Some Barnes appointees have said the will not resign. They are entitled to serve their entire seven-year terms.
