Fifth member of state school board resigns

ATLANTA - A fifth member of the state school board has resigned at the request of Gov. Sonny Perdue. <br>

Bruce Jackson sent his letter of resignation to Perdue on Friday. The Atlanta lawyer served as chairman of the board's budget committee. <br>
<br>
Jackson's resignation gives Perdue one more vacancy to fill on the 13-member board. <br>
<br>
The Republican governor asked all of the board members appointed by his predecessor, Democrat Roy Barnes, to resign so that he could reshape the board, which helps run Georgia's 1.3 million-student public school system. <br>
<br>
Some Barnes appointees have said the will not resign. They are entitled to serve their entire seven-year terms.
