Tough new seat belt bill considered

ATLANTA - The Georgia House is considering changes to the seat belt law to require all car passengers to wear them - not just people in the front seat. <br> <br> Sponsors want to bump the fine for not wearing a seat belt from $15-$200. <br> <br> The proposal also would remove an exemption for pickup trucks - which does not require front-seat passengers to wear seat belts. <br> <br> The bill&#39;s author - Republican Representative Joe Tomlinson of Sandy Springs - says the tough new rules would save lives. He thought of the idea after a losing battle to raise the minimum driving age from 16. <br> <br> But Republican Representative Bobby Parham of Milledgeville - who heads the House Motor Vehicles Committee - says the $200 fine sounds a little steep. But he says the idea to include trucks may stand a good chance.
