Eastern Kentucky hires former Ole Miss AD Shafer

RICHMOND, KENTUCKY - Eastern Kentucky hired former Mississippi athletic director John Shafer Thursday. <br> <br> Shafer most recently worked as executive director of the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Macon, Georgia. He quit as Mississippi&#39;s AD in April, citing a desire to be closer to his family in Virginia. <br> <br> Shafer said he realized after leaving Ole Miss that he missed his old job. <br> <br> Shafer said, ``I wanted to get back into intercollegiate athletics, but not just anywhere. I wanted a place that had a chance to be successful.&#39;&#39; <br> <br> He joined Mississippi in June 1998.
