SAVANNAH - Morris Brown lost its 40th straight game Monday night, 55-39 to Savannah State for the fourth-longest losing streak in NCAA women's Division I history.
The Lady Wolverines finished the season 0-27, and they might not get a chance to play again. The school is millions of dollars in debt and doesn't have accreditation, dimming chances for another season.
Long Island holds the record with 58 straight losses from 1986-89. Washington State's 45-game streak ended Feb. 13 with a 67-64 win over California. Sacramento State had the third-longest streak, 44 games; Morris Brown had been tied with Chicago State at 39 games.
Morris Brown is the only winless team among the 324 Division I schools this season. The Lady Wolverines haven't won since Jan. 14, 2002, when they beat Clark Atlanta 66-63.
They led 21-20 at halftime Monday night before Savannah State rallied behind Kermetris Hill, who scored 19 of her 27 points in the second half.
Morris Brown lost its season opener to Jacksonville by 36 points and has been beaten by at least eight in every game since. The Lady Wolverines lost by 74 to Kentucky, and by 67 to Miami.
