GAINESVILLE - Work is expected to begin this spring on the two-year widening of McEver Road Extension west of Gainesville.

The Georgia Department of Transprtation (GDOT) has awarded the $8.1 million contract to a Rockmart, Georgia, firm, Bruce Albea Contracting Inc.

"There's a lot of preliminary work we have to do," GDOT spokesman Bert Brantley said, "and, that stuff will probably be ongoing and then we'll actually have the bulldozers come in, probably in the spring, maybe in another month or so."

Brantley said the Dawsonville Highway-to-Brown's Bridge Road project is scheduled to be fnished no later than February 2005.

"It also includes the relocation of Pemmican Run," he added. "Anytime you do a widening like that you generally have cross streets that you have to relocate."

As we reported several months ago, McEver Road between Mundy Mill Road and Friendship Road is scheduled for resurfacing beginning this spring, as is Thompson Bridge Road from the Gainesville Civic Center to Fraser Circle.
