UGA athletic director Vince Dooley hospitalized

<p>Georgia athletic director Vince Dooley was hospitalized Tuesday with abdominal pain, which his wife described as not critical.</p><p>Dooley, 71, was in stable condition and undergoing tests at St. Marys Hospital. The cause of his pain was still unknown Tuesday night, and he was being kept overnight.</p><p>Hes going to be fine, said Barbara Dooley, his wife. This is not critical.</p><p>Dooley was rushed to the emergency room at St. Marys after paramedics responded to Barbara Dooleys 911 call late Monday night.</p><p>They still dont know whats wrong, Barbara Dooley said. Its in his abdomen, not in his heart. He has some internal bleeding in his stomach.</p><p>Dooley underwent an angioplasty in January 1996 to clear a blockage in an artery near his heart. It was his fifth such procedure since 1987.</p><p>Dooley is in the last year of his contract and will retire in June after 40 years at the school. He wanted a contract extension but was turned down by university president Michael Adams, angering Dooleys supporters.</p><p>Adams found out Dooley had been hospitalized shortly after a school Cabinet meeting.</p><p>Dr. Adams was concerned to hear the news and wishes coach Dooley well, spokesman Tom Jackson said.</p><p>Dooley coached the Bulldogs football team for 25 years, winning six Southeastern Conference titles and the national championship in 1980. He has been the athletic director since 1979.</p><p>Dooley was planning to attend Saturdays Southeastern Conference championship between No. 5 Georgia and third-ranked LSU. His youngest son, Derek, is an assistant coach for the Tigers.</p><p>I dont know all the details, but I understand hes going to be OK, Georgia coach Mark Richt said. Were just praying for him to get better soon.</p>
