Missing students remains found at Ft. Benning

<p>The remains of a pregnant woman found at Fort Benning were identified Tuesday as those of a Georgia Southern University student who disappeared in September.</p><p>Using dental records, the U.S. Army and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed it was Dena Marie Carter, 24, who was discovered in a wooded area of the Army post near Columbus on Dec. 16. She had been missing since Sept. 11, and was expected to deliver her baby around Christmas.</p><p>While Fort Benning is about 210 miles west of Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Statesboro police have said Carter had a boyfriend stationed at the Army post.</p><p>The skeletal remains of the fetus, which was 28 to 30 weeks old, is undergoing DNA analysis.</p><p>Her death has been ruled a homicide, but officials arent commenting on how she died.</p><p>Investigators are still trying to determine whether Carter was killed in the woods or elsewhere, said Chris Gray, spokesman for the Army criminal investigation command.</p>
