WASHINGTON - Senators Zell Miller and Saxby Chambliss say several transportation projects in Georgia - including one at the Gainesville airport - will receive funding as part of the federal appropriations bill that Congress will consider next week.

The one million dollar project at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport is for an instrument landing system, according to Miller.

As Georgia's governor, Miller committed over $35 million to upgrade more than two dozen rural airports, putting virtually every community in Georgia within a 45-minute drive of a regional airport.

Chambliss said the the instrument landing system will enhance aviation safety and will make the airport far more attractive to corporate and business aircraft equipped with all-weather instrument landing systems.
